DIY Christmas Beginner/Intermediate Macrame Tutorial: Mini Christmas Tree Wall Hanging/Door Knob Holiday Hanger! – Please see below for materials and written instructions.

Material:
– 4mm 3 Ply Cotton Rope (Colour: Gold/Natural)
– 3mm Single Strand Cotton String (Colours: Pine Green, Christmas Red, Soft Yellow)

Hey guys! I have a fun mini Christmas tree wall hanging for you today. After I completed this project I thought it might also look great as a door knob hanger and with a quick gathering knot at the top it can be made into a hanger so feel free to make it as you wish. Please note that if you want to make it into a hanger you will need to leave extra space at the top of your work before tying your square knots (SKs) so that you can tie a gathering around the top cords and still have space to loop it around a door knob.

Set-up – Cut 24 pieces of pine green string, each piece is 8 inches long. Cut 3 pieces of Christmas red string each piece is 3 inches long. Cut 2 pieces of yellow string, each piece is 6 inches long. Set aside. Cut 6 pieces of gold/natural rope, each piece is 7ft long. Fold each piece in half and attach to your dowel using a Lark’s head knot. If you want to make a door hanger, remember to leave a bit of space before tying the first row of square knots then once finished slip the Lark’s head knots off of your dowel and tie a gather knot around the top cords.

Row 1 – Tie 3 SKs across the top of your work.
Row 2 – Skip the first two cords and tie 2 SKs.
Row 3 – Tie one square knot with the 4 cords on the left. Tie a half square knot with the 4 cords in the middle and then grab 4 pieces of pine green string, fold the pieces in half and attach them to your work to create a tassel. Tighten your half square knot and then tie another half square knot (one square knot) to hold the tassel in place. Tie another SK with the 4 cords on the right.
Row 4 – Skip the first two cords and tie 2 SKs adding a tassel above both SKs as we did for Row 3.
Row 5 – Tie 3 SKs adding a tassel above all three as we did for the last two rows.

Trim the ends of the tassels so that they are about 2 inches long. Tie 4 more rows of alternating square knots underneath the tassels.

Attach one piece of yellow string to the square knot above the top tassel. Use a tapestry needle to thread the string through the square knot on one side and then the other from back to front. Grab the second piece of yellow string and attach the string on the top and bottom again from back to front.

Trim the string and then brush it out to create a fluffy star.

Attach the red string to 3 pieces of the green string using an overhand knot. These will act as ornaments on your tree. Trim the ends.
Trim and adjust the rope as you see fit – I trimmed mine to about 6 inches in length (measured from the bottom of the square knots) and I unravelled the rope to create wavy fringe.

To make a door knob hanger, slip your rope off of the dowel and then tie a gathering knot at the top of your work. I used a scrap piece of rope that I cut from the bottom of my hanger to tie the gathering knot.

Thanks for watching!
